Our Founder
One Man Can Make A Difference.
Sidney Kluger, 1912 - 2006, was a pre-eminent educator. In 1966, his love of reading and publishing led him to establish BookBank USA, a non-profit organization, after he observed the desperate need of public and school libraries for educational materials — and especially — to ensure a constant supply of English literature.
In 1968, BookBank USA contributed a bookmobile to the City of Jerusalem as a result of a feature story in Life Magazine in which Mayor Teddy Kollek of that city appealed for such a gift to promote better relations between the Arab and Israeli populations of that city.
After nearly four decades, this organization continues to evolve and develop a wide range of programs to 37 countries globally, including:
- Programs designed for improvement of quality of life through education;
- Public and school libraries – 421 libraries and 5,103,300 books to libraries;
- Health education programs for children — The development of computer and media labs in the US and developing countries — 1,312 computers to 409 schools and media centers;
- Social programs for senior citizens – 7 activities centers to 8,000 seniors in Hawaii, Texas, Kentucky, and Israel
- Art centers in Hawaii, Texas, Kentucky, the Philippines, Kenya and Israel.
We are all saddened that Mr. Kluger is no longer with us, but relieved that his suffering is over. He will live in our hearts forever. Donations in his memory can be made to:
